Lower Rock Creek is an excellent 8.8 mile trail for hiking, fishing and mountain biking located just south of Tom’s Place and about 20 minutes from Mammoth Lakes and about 5 minutes south of Crowley Lake. This trail tends to be accessible earlier in the spring when many other higher trails in the Eastern Sierras are still covered in snow. This trail is considered moderate difficulty and is best The trail is popular amongst mountain bikers who often leave one car at the upper trailhead and one car at the lower trailhead. My wife and I recently took our twin babies and our dog on this hike and we had a great time (we just did about 1.5 miles down from the upper trailhead and then turned back). We parked near the upper trailhead just off Rock Creek Rd & 395. The Rock Creek Trail follows lower Rock Creek and ends near Paradise CA. There is a dirt parking area near the upper trailhead and a paved parking lot near the lower trailhead. There are some nice fishing holes along the trail and we saw some nice trout on our hike.
